We went to Vliet' on Wednesday night with revenge on our minds for an earlier loss and came away with a 14-3 win and the championship of the Dist. 14 Round Robin Tourn. After 2.5 innings at 0-0, Vliet' scored 2 in the bottom of the 3rd, but we found our stride in the top of the 4th with 7 runs. We gave up 1 more in the 4th but scored 2 in the 5th and 5 in the 6th to secure the win. Jimmy 'K' Karins threw a HUGH game, allowing only 4 hits, 3BB's, 5GO's, 1FO to center that Casey O. made look routine, and 12 Big 'K's. WHAT A GAME!!!!!! The hit parade was lead by Dean Maloney:3-4,Kevin Egan:3-4, Jake Messina:3-4, Brendon Lemieur:3-4,Nick Dennis:2-2 with a drive that hit the fence in deep center, Jimmy 'K':2-3, Timmy Buff 1-3, and after getting smashed in the back with a fastball Seamus McHugh toughed it out and was 1-3. After losing our first 2 games, mostly, as I've said before by really bad luck, this team could have very easily given up, but they didn't and won 6 in a row to be the 2nd best team in Dist. 14 9-10's. Dist. 14 had better look out in the next 2 years for these kids!!!!!! I just want to run down the batting averages, it really is great how the team hit.

Dean Maloney:12-22, .545
Kevin Egan:14-20, .700
Jake Messina: 8-20, .400
Casey Ogden: 6-16, .375
Jimmy Karins: 8-16, .500
Matt Rexford: 5-12, .416
Nick Dennis: 6-11, .545
Brendon Lemieur: 12-18, .666
Timmy Buff: 5-13, 385
Seamus McHugh: 4-12, .333
Daniel Hausamann: 3-7, .438

These were all legitimate hits, no give aways, for a TEAM batting average of .482 UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!! Again I would like to thank Tim Buff for all his help as my book coach, Jim Karins for coaching 1st, Sean Maloney for filling in, Tod Dennis, and Tom Lemieur for their help along with the other Dads and without the Moms getting them to practice and ready for the games, we couldn't have done it without you. And also my wife Kyle and my son Max for helping me, it was GREAT !!!!!!

Game 1  Watervliet 3, No. Colonie 2

We came out of the box tonight hitting the ball really well. Many scoring chances were stopped by great defensive plays by Watervliet. Sometimes the luck is with you and sometimes not. Jake Messina pitched a great game striking out 12 and allowing only 7 hits. Dean Maloney was 2 for 3, with a line drive that Vliet's pitcher snared on a wonderful play to stop a rally. Kevin Egan, Jake Messina, and Casey Ogden were all 2 for 3 and played great "D". The game's score, 3-2 says it all, it really could have gone either way. Now we will fight our way through the losers bracket and come back strong. Good luck to Watervliet the rest of the way, maybe we will get a 2nd chance.

State Tournament - Game 4
Wednesday, July 26

NC @ Saratoga

Coach Mitchell coin toss winning streak came to an end today, and it may have an omen, as after we put up a run in the 1st inning, our day took a wrong turn and an unfairly small zone being called, combined with a Saratoga team that was content to not swing as well as 4 defensive errors allowed them to put up 7 runs on us in what was a nightmare of an inning. The hole dug for ourselves prove to be insurmountable as the 9's scratched and clawed, but 4 more defensive errors allowed Saratoga to score 4 more runs in the next 2 innings and we went into the top of the 4th done 11-1. After our 1st 2 batters flied out and grounded out, a single by Burkie kept us alive, then followed by 3 BB's to score a run and keep us alive. Benny took them down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 4th, before we managed to get a rally going in the 5th and scored 3 more runs to cut the lead to 11-5, and got Saratoga a bit nervous. Benny shut them down again in the 5th, thanks to, for the 2nd inning in a row, the defense for some stellar play. The 1st batter hit a ball to Right Field, but an alert Riley fired the ball to nail the runner at 1st. The next batter hit a hot grounder to Shortstop, and Jordan, playing deep on the edge of the outfield grass, gunned the runner down for the 2nd out, getting verbal accolades from Saratoga's coaches for making such a play. Benny made the final out of the inning with a strikeout. We started the 6th needing 6 runs to stay alive, and our 1st 2 batters got on with an error and a walk, before the next 2 struck out. Alex, one of our best power hitters got up, crushed one to deep center but a great catch was made to end the game. Loss 11-5. We finished 4th place in New York State which is very commendable.

The coaching staff is very proud of how these boys never quit, listened, cheered each other on, played unselfishly at all times, and had great sportsmanship, more than any other team we faced. Not one kid ever complained that he was not playing his favorite position. Players excepted their roles as they were given, and gave 100% at all times. We thank the dads for helping out in practices whenever needed, the moms for getting the boys to practice on time, and keeping them out of the pools and lakes during the days when we had practices or games, and everyone for trusting us coaches and allowing us to spend a lot of time practicing to prepare these boys for the run at the state title. Until next year.........we will back with a vengeance!!!!!

NC vs. Amsterdam (Take 4)

For the 3rd day in a row, we had to play and started out on a good note for the 3rd day in a row by winning the coin toss and electing to be the Home Team. This was our 4th meeting against a great hitting Amsterdam team, who had beaten us 2 of the 3 previous attempts, both being on this same field. The game started out with a hit and an infield error, putting us on the ropes early, once again, as Amsterdam put 2 on the board before we got them out. After loading the bases with 2 outs, we came away with nothing. In the 2nd, Michael Blaauboer started the inning with 2 Ks and then after a single and another infield error, managed to get out of the inning without any runs scored. Bottom of the 2nd, we scored a run on an RBI by Blaauboer. Top 3, Jordan Mitchell had 3 Ks after a leadoff single and 2 walks to stop the potential rally before it started. Bottom 3, walks worked by Alex and Jordan were followed by RBI singles by Burkie and Justin to go up 3-2. But in the top of the 4th, Amsterdam came alive and our defense fell apart, as the 1st 3 batters got on due to errors, and up came Ashley, Amsterdam's Ms. Big Papi who crushed a no outs triple to take the lead back. After the next 2 batters got out, Brett came into the game in relief, and after a walk, and another error, managed to get us out of the inning, done 6-3. Our kids refused to quit, and after Benny led off with a walk, Dustin drove him in, then Brett drove him in. After 4, 6-5 Amsterdam. Amsterdam came right back in the 5th, scoring 2 more on 2 hits, 2 BBs and an error to go up 8-5. Bottom 5, NC Cal 9's cam alive! Justin single, Woodsy single, Blaauboer BB, Benny RBI BB, Dustin RBI single, Alex K(out 1), Brett RBI single to tie it up 8-8. Then Jordan ripped a Double to Right Center to knock in 2 runs. Burkie got up next and had a hard hit single to the Outfield to drive in 2 more. The boys were cheering so loud we thought they would all have laryngitis that night. After a force out at 2nd, another RBI single by Riley put NC up 13-8 before they got Michael to pop out for the 3rd out. What an intense and exciting inning!
The coaches strategized, and decided to re-insert the started, Michael Blaauboer into the game to pitch the final inning. Amsterdam refused to lay down, and after a pop out, got on with a single, 2 infield errors, then another single and now it was 13-10 with 1 out still. The next batter popped out to Woodsy at 1st base. The next batter walked, before Michael struck out their 8 hitter looking to end one of the most exciting and crazy games I have ever seen. The boys proved to everyone that we could never be counted out of a game, and managed to savor a huge victory, knocking the host team out of the tournament. Fantastic effort 9's!!!! On to tomorrow....Final score NC 13, Amsterdam 10.

Game 2

Monday 7/24/06

NC vs. Kent

With our backs now against the wall, the boys game out wanting to show just how NC plays ball. Mark Matson came out throwing gas and after walking the first 2 batters, he struck out the side. Some good defense kept us off the board in the 1st as well. An error in the 2nd allowed Kent to get on the board and take an early lead in this one. However, our boys came out swinging in the 2nd, and 5 hits later, it's NC 5 and Kent 1. Some great pitching and 2 nice defensive plays by Mark Matson blanked Kent in the 3rd. The NC lumber reared its head again and after 4 more hits, it was now NC 7 - Kent 1 through 3 innings. In the 4th, we put Michael Blaauboer in to pitch. On his first pitch, he hit the batter, and it appeared as if maybe this would be the start of a Kent rally. However, the next batter hit a hot grounder back to the mound. Michael fielded it, through to 2nd base where the shortstop, Jordan, was ready, got the force, and fired it to Justin on 1st base for a text book
1-6-3 double play. The next batter grounded out to the pitcher to end the inning. Bottom 4, their pitching lost the plate and after walking the 1st 3 batters to load the bases, the bats came alive and we put up 4 runs to end the game with a mercy, 11-1.

Pitching highlights:

Mark Matson - 3 IP, 1 Run, 5 K's, No Hits
Michael Blaauboer - 1 IP, No Runs, No Hits

State Tournament

Game 1
Sunday 7/23/06

NC vs. Clifton Park 1

We kicked off the tournament having to face a tough Clifton Park team that most of these boys have played against on 15 or so occasions. Our boys came out ready to rumble. Some fantastic pitching and near perfect defense kept Clifton Park away from Home Plate. Unfortunately, the same can be said for Clifton Park's pitching and defense as well. In the top of the 6th, we came out and got 2 quick outs. A bloop single, 2 passed balls and 2 stolen bases later, they had a man on 3rd with 2 outs. A tough ground ball gave us trouble and they just beat out the throw to first to squeak out the only run thus far, by either team. The bats came out for us in the 6th, but Clifton Park's defense held us at bay to end the game. Final score: CP 1 - NC 0. In this double elimination tournament, we are now in the losers bracket, and every game is now a must win.

Notables:

Offense:
Mark Matson - single
Jordan Mitchell - single
Robert Burke - single

Final score 13-1 North Colonie(5 innings played).

NC 9's @ Amsterdam

This was the 3rd battle royal between these 2 teams. The tension filled the air right from warm ups like a Yankees/Red Sox game. Both teams threatened in the 1st inning and came up empty. In the 2nd though, a pie plate zone gave us from trouble and 3 walks later, we were up against the ropes once again. This time we let 2 men score on passed balls before we managed to get out of the jam. End of 2, NC - 0, Amsterdam - 2. We loaded the bases up to start the 3rd, but then 2 shots hit to center were caught and thrown to home to keep us at bay. A strikeout and we were back on defense after coming up short once again. In the bottom of the 3rd, they worked a walk then were moved over and sacrificed in. 3-0 Amsterdam at the half way mark. We came out hitting again but got thrown out stealing home twice on some questionable calls to kill a potential NC rally once again. Bottom 4 got ugly with 3 walks and 4 errors in the field and now it was 8-0 Amsterdam. We finally got on the board in the 5th with a run. Amsterdam put 2 more up in the 5th to go up 10-1 and almost put us away. The boys kept there chins up, and came out cheering loudly for their team mates in the 6th. Bang, bang the bats were cracking and one batter after another hit the ball well and the runs started pouring in, one by one. We had Amsterdam's coaches, players and fans very nervous as we closed the gap. They even complained that our cheering was too loud and it was distracting them. Every close call was appealed to try anything to get a break and get that last out on us. By our 12th batter of the inning, they managed to finally get an out at first on a close play and end the game. Final score 10-7 Amsterdam. We were all very proud of the boys who showed they were warriors through and through, and never quit when their backs were against the wall. Great job NC Cal 9's!!!

The Lumber:

Benny - 2 singles
Mark - 2 singles, RBI
Brett - 2 singles, RBI
Joey - single, double, 2 RBI's
Jordan - 2 singles, RBI
Dustin - single

Defensive highlights:

Twice, on a 1st and 3rd situation, Amsterdam tried to steal second and we nailed them on a trick play. Great job Benny, Jordan and Robert.

Niskayuna 0 @ North Colonie 9

Picking right up where we left off from the previous game the NC 9's were solid on defense committing only 2 errors all game and allowing only 4 hits by the Niskayuna team. The offense continued to pound the ball and run on all cylinders keeping the pressure on their defense at the plate and on the bases.

The Lumber:

Alex Koshgarian - triple, RBI, 1 Run
Jordan Mitchell - 2 singles, 3 RBI's
Brett Gaughan - 2 Singles, 2 Runs
Robert Burke - 1 single, , 1 Run

July 6, 2006

Amsterdam @ North Colonie

What started out to be an ugly game for our 9's after giving up 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning, slowly turned into a battle. Good positive attitudes overtook the NC dugout and the boys put their game faces on and made it a 2 run game after 1. Another ugly defensive outing in the top of the 2nd left up now in at a 5 run deficit. Once again, our boys showed character and one by one, after a great lead off walk, hit the ball hard, ran hard and scored 5 runs to tie up the game after 2 innings! Over the next 3 innings, both squads settled down defensively, and while Amsterdam managed to score 4 more runs, almost solely on NC errors in the field, NC's bats went flat and only scored 2. After Brett came in and shut down the Amsterdam bats in the top of the 6th, the boys had to dig deep and score at least 2 runs this final at bat. 11-9 game, bottom of the 6th, here we go! The boys stayed positive, listened to their coaches and came out ready to rock the new pitcher. Riley led off with a monster blast that hit the top of the wall in left for a long double. Alex crushed one, knocked in Riley, tried to stretch it to get home for the tying run but..ahh, out at the plate! Justin was up next and hit a nice shot to right center for a single. After Brett and Robert worked a walk, up comes Matt Woods who had a rough outing on the mound tonight. No pressure, just bases loaded, 2 outs, bottom of the 6th, and down by a run! Matt jumped on a first pitch strike and poked a ball to shallow left, and in came Justin, and then Brett to score the winning run! Great job! Way to show some heart boys! Final score NC 12 - Amsterdam 11.

Hits:

Benny Cassillo - double and 2 singles, 2 RBI's

Jordan Mitchell - single, 2 RBI's
Riley Naclerio - double

After a tough loss last night, the bats came out early, and no mercy was taken in the top of the 1st inning by North Colonie. We scored 12 runs to start off the game, going through 19 batters. We proceeded to keep Nisky from rallying, tacked on several insurance runs, and ran away with a 21-3 victory.

The Lumber:

Alex Koshgarian - triple, double, single, 2 RBI's, 3 Runs
Jordan Mitchell - 3 singles, 3 RBI's

June 30, 2006

NC @ Amsterdam

The boys came out a bit nervous in their first game, giving up 3 runs in the 1st inning on a few hits and a couple errors to go with it. We settled down, and after 4 1/2 innings, went up 5-3. Amsterdam came right back in the 5th, with 3 of their own, due to some fielding and throwing errors by NC. Amsterdam put us down in the 6th to end a hard fought, character building battle between 2 good squads. Final score 6-5 Amsterdam.

Bats tonight:
Benny Cassillo - 2 singles
Alex Koshgarian - double and single
Brett Gaughan - double
Riley Naclerio - double
Michael Blaauboer - single

10U Cal Ripken 2006 All Star Highlights

Ripken Season, 2nd Half Play

North Colonie vs. Clifton Park

In the last game of our 10 year old Cal Ripken season, we decided to mix it up a little. Coach Egan, Coach Gavin, Coach Cox, Coach Bilynski, Coach Mainella, & Coach Krege (that's Chris, Christina, Charleen, Anne Marie, Darleen, and Michelle) had the team playing their best ball of the year while Coaches Zappone, Egan, Callister, Gavin, Safford, & Hoffman (that's Joe, Mike, Jim, Sean, Marty, & Jeff) tried to find a flaw in the ladies coaching tactics from behind the fence. Other than one of the Moms licking her finger to wipe away some dirt on her son's face in front of the whole team, no flaws could be found as the team prevailed 9-1. A change in the coaching heiarchy at the 10 year old level is in the making.

Lumber: Sean Egan, Matt Zappone, Nick Gavin, Justin Safford, Chad Sinko, Steven Cox, and Mike Mainella

Arms: Brandan Safford, Kevin Bilynsky, Tyler Hoffman, Matt Zappone, Sean Egan, Justin Safford

Some nifty glovework that helped keep the CP hitters in check: Ryan Callister & Matt Polsinello

We'd like to thank our parents for their support during the last month. The 'Sea of RED' and encouragement/cheering that filled the stands for every game was appreciated!!

Final Score: NC-9  Clifton Park-1

Overall record: 9-3
                          (Mom's record: 1-0)
                          (Dad's record: 8-3)
Season Over

North Colonie vs. Wilton

After a 9 day lay off, the NC 10's got back on the diamond as they traveled North to play a scrappy Wilton team on their brand new field.

Player Appreciation Day saw our 9th batter bat 1st and our 1st batter bat 9th, outfielders played the infield and our infielders play the outfield, and to top it all off, Coach Egan was replaced as 3rd base coach by 'Coach' Matt Polsinello.

The kids swung the bats as only 5 K's were recorded by the Wilton hurlers.

Lumber: Mike Mainella, Ryan Callister, Chad Sinko, Matt 'Shake & Bake' Polsinello, Kevin Bilynsky, Nick Gavin, Tyler Hoffman, & Sean Egan

A couple of 'dusty' gloves in the field led to many unearned runs but enough plays were made by NC to keep the game in hand.

Final Score: NC-10  Wilton-7

Game 4 State Tournament

Our 4th game had the NC 10's going against the same Nisky team that we beat in the Area Tournament one week earlier. The winner would move to the championship game and also automatically qualify for the Northeast Regional Tourney. We were confident but not over confident.

Nisky struck first with a run in hte 2nd inning. NC came right back with 3 in the top of the 3rd only to have Nisky to cut the lead to 3-2 after 4 innings. That's when the wheels came off the wagon. 2 errors and about 12 bunts later, Nisky had pushed across 6 runs to take a 8-3 lead. NC battled for 1 run in the 5th and mounted a 2 run rally that had the tying run at the plate in the 6th but some nice glovework by Nisky stopped the rally just short.

Justin Safford pitched 4 innings of 2 hit baseball only allowing 2 runs.

Sticks: Sean Egan, Brandan Safford, Tyler Hoffman, Nick Gavin, Justin Safford, Matt Zappone, Kevin Bilynsky, Matt Polsinello, & Ryan Callister

Final Score: NIsky - 8   NC - 6
State Tournament Record: 2 - 2
Overall Record: 7 - 3

We would like to mention that although it was very disappointing to have the tourney end that way after being so close to qualifying for the Regionals, all 12 kids handled themselves better in defeat than some of the other teams did in victory. They held their heads high and represented North Colonie baseball in a very classy way!! We, as a community, should be very proud of them!

Next game: TBD

Game 3 State Tournament

Our 3rd game had the NC 10's matched against our old nemesis Queensbury. They're a very solid team with good pitching, good defense, and disciplined plate presence. A very tight, back and forth game can usually be found when our 2 teams hook up. Somewhat true this time...

After a scoreless first inning, QBury struck first in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs on only 1 hit. NC came back in the top of the third to tie the game thanks to a 2 run bomb by Tyler Hoffman that is still in orbit. A run by QBury in the third on 0 hits and a run by NC in the top of the 4th had the game tied 3-3 when the flood gates opened up. QBury scored 5 runs in the 4th all with 2 outs and another 3 runs in the 5th to put the game out of reach. Another bomb, this one by Sean Egan, closed the gap to 11-5 but that's the way it ended.

Not much lumber today: Sean Egan, Tyler Hoffman, & Kevin Bilynsky

The one bright spot of the day is that we qualified for the Championship Round by allowing the second fewest runs in the 3 game round robin.

Final Score: Queensbury - 11   NC - 5
State Tournament Record: 2 - 1
Overall Record: 7 - 2

Next game: Monday 5:30 vs. Niskayuna

Game 2 State Tournament

Our 2nd game had the NC 10's matched against East Fishkill. We had never played them before but knew they beat an always tough Queensbury team the day before. We knew we'd have our hands full.

After scoring one run in the top of the first and leaving the bases loaded, we handed the ball to Justin Safford and asked him to keep the game close. J-Saf did just that shutting down East Fishkill by not allowing any runs in the first 2 innings. The NC defense was strong early hilighted by a picture perfect 7-6-5 relay from left field that nabbed a runner trying to reach third base!

The bats came to life as we scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning, 5 runs in the 4th inning, and 6 runs in the 5th inning. The big blow came in the 4th when Tyler Hoffman hit a bomb to left field that missed going yard by about a foot. The ball hit and partially shattered a sign that was hung on the fence.

On the hill: J-Saf, Capt. Egan, and Chadster

Big Bats: Sean Egan, Papi, Mr. T., B-Saf, J-Saf, Ryan Callister, Matt Polsinello, Chadster, Steven Cox

Final Score: NC - 16   East Fishkill - 4
Tournament Record: 2 - 0
Overall Record: 7 - 1

Next game: Sunday 11:00 vs. Queensbury

Game 1 State Tournament

The NC 10's traveled to Spring (Troy) to take part in the 10 year old Cal Ripken State Tournament. The first game had us up against an unfamiliar opponent in Tri-Valley from the Syracuse area.

Our starter, Matt 'Z' Zappone, said he didn't care if the opponent was from Timbuktu - it was going to be NC's game.

A strong 2 innings from Z kept Tri-Valley off the bases - 6 batters, 4 K's. Kevin Bilynsky threw the final 2 innings giving up only 2 BB's while striking out 3. A combined no-hitter by Z & KB!!

The sticks were on fire as we scored 5 runs in the first inning and 7 runs in the second.

Big Bats: Sean Egan, Z, Nick Gavin, Mr. T., B-Saf, J-Saf, Ryan Callister, Chadster, & Matt Polsinello.

Final Score: NC - 12   Tri-Valley - 0
Tournament Record: 1 - 0
Overall Record: 6 - 1

The Championship Game!

After a 20 minute break following the first game, The Nisky and NC 10's took the field under the lights to ultimately determine who would be the Central Region's #1 seed in next week's State Tournament.

Feeling he momentum was on our side, NC was surprised when Nisky came out of the gate with 2 runs in the first inning. Not to be outdone, the NC sticks produced 2 of their own in the bottom of the 1st to tie it.

A resilient Nisky squad scored 2 more in the 2nd only to have NC follow suit to tie the score at 4 after two innings.

NC pushed across a run in the third to take a 5-4 lead that lasted until the 6th inning when Nisky scratched, clawed, and bunted their way to a run to tie the score that lead to a dramatic finish.

With one out, Sean Egan roped a double and moved to third on a passed ball. With one out and the championship winning run on third base, Nick 'Big Papi' Gavin stroked a sacrifice fly to center field to win the game!!

1st game of championship round

NC was faced with their third consecutive elimination game. Lose and the tourney is over.

Tyler 'Mr. T' Hoffman took the hill for the first time this post season getting the first 2 hitters out in each of the first three innings before testing the coach's patience. When all was said and done, Mr. T allowed 0 hits and 0 runs to keep the NC 10's in the game.

In innings 3 & 4, the NC lumber caught fire led by Sean Egan, Z, Nick Gavin, Mr T., Matty P., B-Saf, J-Saf, and The Chadster. A tight game was broken wide open with 3 runs in the third and 5 runs in the fourth.

The Chadster took the hill for innings 4-6 and allowed only 2 runs and 1 hit.

A combined 1 hitter for Mr T. & The Chadster!

Some great leather also helped the team.

NC - 8

Nisky - 2

On to the Championship game....

Game 4

Facing an unfamiliar Westland Hills team, the NC 10's had their backs against the wall in yet another 'win or go home' game. Not wanting to have a baseball-less summer, the NC 10's brought a determined attitude to the ballfield.

A quick 3 spot in the first inning let the opposition know we meant business.

J-Saf threw a 4 inning complete game allowing only 2 hits, striking out 6 , while facing only 14 batters.

Tyler Hoffman went 3-3 at the plate. Sean Egan, Chad Sinko, B-Saf, and J-Saf also had hits.

Final Score:

North Colonie - 10

Westland Hills - 0

NC Record: 3-1

The NC 10's advance to the Championship Game(s) of the Area Tournament.

Next Game: Thursday June 29th @ 6:00

Opponent: A strong Nisky Team that is sitting at 2-0

Game 3:

Tuesday June 27th

In an elimination must game for the NC 10’s, a near perfect game was played! Little Z threw 3 innings of fastballs, cutters, slow balls and slower balls to baffle and confuse the Spring batters. The Chadster completed the game on the hill in fine fashion. Offensive support from the entire team* led to a 12-2 shortened game!

*errors by the 1st base coach, 3rd base coach, and the book coach have left Big Z scratching his head as to why the play on the field is better than the play off the field.

Final Score: NC 12  Spring 2

Game #2:

Sunday June 25th

A different day brought different results. An unusually tough day in the field allowed several unearned runs to cross the Nisky plate that the NC bats could not get back.

Offensive contributors: Sean Egan, Matt Zappone, Nick Gavin, Brandan Safford, Justin Safford, Mike Mainella, Ryan Callister, Matt Polsinello.

Final Score: Nisky 9  North Colonie 4

State Tournament

The North Colonie 11 year old Cal team’s season came to an end against a tough Queensbury team in the State Tournaments semi-final game.  Queensbury came out with hot bats that North Colonie could not match.  Although the season is over each and every player on the team should come away with a sense of accomplishment.  As the Cal Ripken commissioner told us only 4 teams in the state make it to this level.  We battled hard and just ran out of gas in the end.

Have a great off season and let’s do it again next year!!

Season Over – Final record 9-3

-------------------------

The North Colonie 11 year old Cal Team advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament with wins over East Fishkill and Glens Falls in a Sunday double header.

In the first game against East Fishkill North Colonie took a 5 run lead after two innings which inclued a single by Jake Nash (2 runs scored and 2 RBI's), double by Jason Gallacci (2RBI's), singles by Ethan Waltersdorf, Teddy Cillis (1RBI), Kyle Soldani and Danny Ciramella.  After a couple of singles by East Fishkill brought the score to 5-2 in the 3rd the North Colonie pitchers (Gallacci, Cillis and Waltersdorf) shutdown East Fishkill for the remainder of the game.

In the afternoon game against Glens Falls North Colonie came out flat giving up 2 runs in the top of the first and 3 in the third to take a 5-1 lead going into the bottom of the third.  North Colonie then got back into the game with 4 runs in the third to tie the game behind a double by Danny Ciramella (2 RBI's), single by Mike Englert (1 RBI) a key bunt by Corey McMeel and a sacrifice by Ryan Paulsen (1 RBI).  North Colonie took the lead in the 5th on Ethan Waltersdorf's single and Danny Ciramella's RBI single.  The insurance run in the 6th was all Mike Englert.  A base on balls and past balls moved him to third with another one getting him home with a nifty jump over the tag.  Ethan Walterdorf shut down Glens Fall after the 3rd with an assortment of pitches that kept them off balance throughout the final 3 innings.

These wins gave North Colonie the Pool B #1 seed into the semi-finals on Monday at 7:30 against Queensbury at the Niskayuna field.

-------------------------

The North Colonie 11 Year Old Cal team began it's run at the state title with a hard fought win over rival Niskaynua on their home field.  The combined pitching effort of Jason Gallacci (4), Teddy Cillis and Ethan Waltersdorf allowed only two Niskayuna hits in holding Nisky to 3 runs.  Congratultions to Ethan who came in with two on and no outs in the bottom of the 6th to secure the win!!  It was a team effort offensively lead by Jake Nash's two for three with a walk and two runs scored, Teddy Cillis with a two RBI double and single, Jason Gallacci double and single with an RBI, CJ Landers single and RBI and singles by Corey McMeel (RBI) and Mike Englert.

By virtue of their great comeback win in Game 2 against Sorensco, NC 15's are assured of no less than runner up in the District tournament. This year District 4 sends two representatives to the State Tourney which begins on Sat. July 22 with NC playing either host Bethlehem or Dist.3 Champ.

More to follow.

Now for game 3...It was a dark and dreary night for the North Colonie bats who managed only five hits.  Ahmed Awan roped a double to right center but NC failed to put together any resemblance of a ralley. The defense took the night off yielding 11hits, 7 walks, 4 hit batsmen and 7 errors..  These were not your NC All Stars that showed up on Tuesday night.

We are re-grouping and will play our best and fight it out again with Sorensco on Friday night at Twin Town at 6pm.

North Colonie bats continued to connect with 15 hits. After taking an early 3 - 1 lead, the bats went quiet before exploding in the bottom of the seventh. Down 8 - 3 with their last at bat, the North Colonie team scored six runs on eight consecutive hits. Marc Rogers hit the game winning single with Mickey Chaszczewski scoring the winning run from second by beating the relay throw to home.

Pitchers Kevin Seward and Eric Johnson combined for the 9 - 8 victory.

This win puts North Colonie in the District 4 Championship game to be played on Tuesday at 8pm.

Come support the "never say die team with the huge heart" in their quest for the District 4 title.
